SPECIFICATION:
Assembled with a 4 foot length of high profile latex rubber
tubing including a 6 inch pliable natural rubber funnel with
an air vent. The funnel can be applied to most standard
bottle sizes from a 250 ml to a 1,000 ml after the seal and
stopper are removed. Packaging includes a 14 gauge x 1 ½
inch sterilized disposable needle and a flow adjustment slip
adapter. All parts can be replaced.
OBJECTIVE: To aid in
the sterile administration of intravenous fluids and
medications.
APPLICATION: Prior to
usage, the Intravenous Set should be removed from the
package and sterilized to prevent any infection.
Aseptically, remove the
metal crimp seal and stopper from the IV medication to be
administered. Apply the funnel of the Intravenous Set over
the neck of the IV medication bottle, raise and invert the
IV medication bottle to allow all of the air in the latex
rubber tubing to be evacuated and filled with IV medication.
Close the flow adjustment slip adapter when the IV
medication has completely filled all of the latex tubing and
is beginning to drain from the metal hub.
Remove the disposable 14
gauge needle from the plastic sheath and aseptically insert
the needle into a jugular vein. Insure that the needle is in
the vein by confirming the flow of blood from the hub of the
needle. Apply the metal hub of the Intravenous Set to the
plastic hub of the disposable needle. Open the flow
adjustment slip adapter and administer the IV medication
according to the manufacturer of the IV medication’s
recommendations.
When the fluid level has
reached the funnel of the IV set, completely close the flow
adjustment slip adapter and remove the needle from the
jugular vein. Place a sterile gauze pad over the needle hole
and apply finger pressure to the gauze pad until bleeding
has stopped.
Afterwards, dispose of the
14 gauge needle in an appropriate manner and fully rinse the
Intravenous Set by connecting the funnel to a faucet and
running tap water through the tubing for several minutes.
Clean any debris from the outside of the tubing and
sterilize before the next usage.
PRECAUTIONS: Improper administration
of IV medications may result in severe complications. Only
properly trained individuals should administer intravenous
fluids and medications. Consult with a veterinarian before
attempting this procedure. |
