SPECIFICATION: The
#26845 Injection Pump features leather packing on the end of
the plunger whereas the #26850 Injection Pump has an O-Ring.
A felt washer is located at the head cap of both instruments
and as it wears, simply tighten the head cap until the
vacuum is corrected or the unit quits leaking. It is very
important to keep the felt washer lubricated (#10). If it
dries out and will not absorb properly it needs to be
replaced or leakage will continue. The instruments are
manufactured of seamless, nickel plated, ultra durable brass
tubing. The exposed end of the plunger has a solid brass,
nickel plated, convenient oversized T-handle for easy
grasping and operation. The continuous flow design allows
pumping on both the in as well as the out stroke of the
plunger. The upper and lower adapters are graduated in
dimensions to accommodate various diameter size tubing. The
tube, when connected to the lower adapter, will only draw
and not exude fluids. Parts and service are available upon
request.
OBJECTIVE: The
continuous flow injection pump is utilized as an aid in
removing fluid from an animal’s stomach or in
administering fluid treatment for gastrointestinal, rumen or
fluid complications.
APPLICATION: The animal
should be well restrained before attempting to utilize the
injection pump with tubing and/or speculum. Place the tubing
parallel to the animal’s side to interpret the approximate
length of tubing to mark for identification of tubular
length from the mouth to the stomach/rumen area. When using
a Frick speculum, place it in the animal’s mouth either
from the side or front of the mouth. You need to be cautious
and not place the end of the speculum in the throat area as
this may cause ulcerations. Pass the tubing through the
speculum until it is in the stomach/rumen. Confirm the
tubing is located within the stomach/rumen and not in the
lungs. There will be a pungent odor emitted from the
stomach/rumen and a rumbling or gurgling sound will be
present if it is inserted properly. If the tubing is in the
lungs you will feel the air flow at the exposed end of the
tubing. After insertion is properly accomplished, fit the
exposed tubing end over the upper pump attachment located on
the hex head (#11). Connect separate tubing to the bottom
adapter of the pump (#16) and place one end into the fluid
for administration. If you do not use the separate tubing
then simply immerse the bottom of the pump into the fluid
for administering. The pump will inject fluid on both the in
and out movement of the plunger when the hose/hoses are
attached as described above. To remove tubing from the
stomach/rumen release the tubing from the upper adapter
(#17). Upon releasing, plug the open end of the tubing with
your thumb and gently remove the tubing and the Frick
speculum from the animal. To draw fluid contained in the
stomach/rumen, attach tubing to the pump bottom adapter
(#16) after the speculum and tubing have been applied as
previously described. The bottom attachment will allow
drawing or suction away from the stomach/rumen. If the
procedure is performed intranasally the speculum is not
utilized but the preceding description of application and
operation are followed.
After completion of the
procedure, clean the hose and instrument well with soap and
water and apply mineral oil through the pump to lubricate
the plunger O-Ring (#4). Unscrew the head cap (#9) and lift
up to expose felt washer (#10) for oil lubrication. Screw
back down (#9) and hand tighten.
