SPECIFICATION: All of
the dose syringe barrels are nickel plated brass tubing, the
plunger/plunger rods are nickel plated solid brass, the
finger rings/thumb rings/head caps are zinc die cast.
Plunger O-Rings are of high quality rubber with mineral oil
lubricant applied.
Plunger rods and barrels
vary in size on all the instruments, see specifications (p.
8) for details. The plunger rods are calibrated for fluid
ounce dosages and identified by whole numeral and half ounce
markings.
All syringes are packaged
without dose pipes which are ordered separately to meet the
users’ requirements. All parts can be repaired or
replaced.
OBJECTIVE: To aid in
the oral administration of medication or irrigation
procedures when a dose pipe of choice is adapted. It can
also be utilized as an instrument for extruding fluids.
APPLICATION: Thread a
dose pipe of your choice into the pump barrel by twisting
clockwise and finger tighten.
ORAL DOSING: Restrain
animal. Depress the plunger rod all the way into the barrel,
place end of the pipe into fluid medication and slowly pull
back on the plunger rod (using the thumb ring) until dosage
reaches desired capacity by reading the fluid ounce
measurements on the plunger rod. Cautiously insert the pipe
into the side of the animal’s mouth and place the end of
the pipe near the throat opening. Do not insert too far into
the throat or damage could occur to the pharynx. Depress the
plunger slowly, with the aid of the thumb and finger rings,
to extrude medication. Hold the dose pipe in the throat
until the animal swallows before removing to confirm an
absolute administration. Slowly remove the pipe from the
throat opening and pull out of the side of the mouth to
prevent any damage to the animal’s oral cavity.
IRRIGATION: Restrain
animal. Fill syringe to desired amount with fluid as
described under oral dosing. The fluid amount administered
at one time and the fluid pressure are controlled by the
user’s pressure on the plunger.
The syringe needs to be disassembled
after use, thoroughly cleaned in soap and water solution,
and dried well. Apply mineral oil to the O-Rings and
reassemble for future use. The entire instrument can be
autoclaved if necessary.
