SPECIFICATION: The
three sizes of tube dehorners are ¾" I.D. (#23052),
7/8" I.D. (#23053), and 1" I.D. (#23054). The
handles are made of a durable hardwood and rounded for ease
and comfort of operation. The tubes are manufactured of high
strength carbon steel and nickel plated. The cutting edges
are precision sharpened and equipped with protective covers.
Custom lengths (conditional on quantity) and resharpening
are available upon request.
OBJECTIVE: To eliminate
the growth of horns for safety to both the animal and the
handler. Animals with horns can be a deterrent to producers
in some markets in regards to the value of the animal.
APPLICATION: The
dehorners can be utilized on calves from birth to eight
weeks of age (depending on the breed of the animal and size
of the bud). Make sure the animal is restricted or limited
to head movement. Remove the protective cover and place the
precision sharpened end over the horn bud. Push down and
twist the dehorner back and forth to penetrate the skin and
get to the base of the bud. When the skin has been
penetrated and the tube can’t be pushed down any deeper,
the bud should break off. Grab the artery between your thumb
and forefinger, twist and hold for a few seconds and
release. If you have a bleeder, use a pair of artery forceps
to stop the bleeding. During fly season, or another vector
type insect season, you need to have a fly spray or
antiseptic available. |
