ANIMAL BLOOD

All blood is drawn from healthy animals maintained on our premises under the direct supervision of our Staff Veterinarians, are kept on antibiotic free diets, and are not medicated in any way. Animals are closely monitored so as not to over bleed them causing anemia. If for any reason an animal is unhealthy or has to be given antibiotics, it is removed from production until returned to health. Blood is drawn under aseptic conditions and filled into sterile bottles in the aliquots requested by our customers.

All blood products are tested for sterility using BHI, Thioglycollate and Tryptic Soy. Because of the time necessary for complete testing, product is shipped prior to final determination. If for any reason we deem the product to be unsatisfactory, customer is immediately notified and product replaced or credit issued. We recommend blood be stored at 2-7 degrees Centigrade. Fragility increases after 21 days.

This is a non hazardous product. There are no MSDS available. Determination for the suitability of Colorado Serum Company’s reagent blood products is the sole responsibility of the purchaser.

Animal blood is offered in three types:

ALSEVERS
Blood containing alsevers solution is a 50% mix of whole blood and alsevers solution. Alsevers solution, which is made in our laboratory and tested for sterility, acts as an anti-coagulant and preservative. It contains sodium citrate and glucose.

CITRATED
Citrated blood contains one part sodium citrate to nine parts whole blood. Citrate acts as an anticoagulant.

DEFIBRINATED
Blood that has been defibrinated is whole blood that has been processed to remove fibrin. There are no additives or preservatives in this product.
