All blood is drawn from healthy animals maintained on our premises under the direct supervision of our Staff Veterinarians.  They are kept on antibiotic free diets and are not medicated in any way.  Blood is drawn under aseptic conditions and filled into sterile bottles in aliquots requested by our customers.  Animals are closely monitored as to not over bleed them and cause anemia.  If for any reason an animal is unhealthy or has to be given antibiotics, it is removed from production until returned to health.

All blood products are tested for sterility using BHI, Thioglycollate and Tryptic Soy.  Because of the time for complete testing, product is shipped prior to final determination.  If for any reason we deem the product unsatisfactory,  the customer is immediately notified and product replaced or credit issued.  We recommend the blood be stored at 2 to 7 degrees C.  Fragility increases after 21 days.

Animal bloods are offered in 3 types:

• Alsevers: 50% mix of whole blood and alsevers solution.  Alsevers solution, which is made in our laboratory and sterility tested, acts as an anti-coagulant and preservative.  It contains sodium citrate and glucose.

• Defibrinated: Whole blood which has been processed to remove fibrin.  There are no additives or preservatives in this product.

• Citrate: One part sodium citrate to nine parts whole blood.  Citrate acts as an anti-coagulant.

This is a non hazardous product.  There are no MSDS available.
