16.An anti-toxin product contains antibodies derived from hyper-immunized animals. These antibodies will provide short-term, approximately 10 days, protection against a disease and will also treat an animal already infected with a specific disease. This is termed "passive-immunity," an example would be our Clostridium Perfringens types C & D antitoxin. A toxoid, a killed toxin, provides long-term, protection for animals which have not yet been exposed to a disease. Toxoids are comprised of inactivated disease-causing toxins that stimulate the animal’s immune system to quickly respond to an infection. This is termed "active-immunity," and an example would be our Tetanus Toxoid.
